Equation References

The Equation References option, in the Curve-Fit graph's control panel and Reference menu, controls the addition and removal of equation references. These references overlay the current curve-fit and are usually used for graphical comparison with other curve-fits in the current equation set, or with fits saved from a prior analysis.

References

Up to four curve-fit references can be active at a given time. Each reference and its corresponding title will be displayed with a specific color that can be set in the Customize Colors option. The current curve-fit equation uses the Component 1 color. The references use Component 2 through Component 5 colors.

When a reference is from the current set of candidate equations, the title will contain the r² value, equation number, and equation description. When the reference is imported from a previous fit, the title will contain the file name (minus the path), equation number, and equation description. Note that the standard titles with the goodness-of-fit statistics and parametric information are not present when one or more references is active.

References can be processed individually, or as a set.

Single Reference Options

Check the Add Current Curve-Fit Equation to References option to add the present curve-fit to the reference set. The reference is automatically added to the next available position. If four references are already specified, this option will be grayed. When this option is selected, the new reference will fully mask the current curve-fit (the current fit and reference are identical until a different equation is selected).

Generate/8925.gif Note: a reference can be directly added without opening this Equation References option. Click the Add Current Equation as Reference button or select the Add Current Equation as Reference item in the Reference menu of the Curve-Fit graph.

Check the Add One or More Imported Fits to References option to import fit reference files from disk. These files, which are saved in a binary format and contain a single reference, have a default REF extension. To select multiple files in the import procedure, hold down the Shift or Control keys.

Check the Save Current Equation as Reference option to export the current equation and parameters as an REF fit reference file. Note that this saves only the current equation being reviewed. Note that you can also initiate this export by using the Save Current Equation as Reference item in the Reference menu of the Curve-Fit graph.

Check the Remove Specific Reference option and select the reference number desired in order to fully delete a reference.

Generate/8926.gif Note: It is not necessary to remove references when you want to only temporarily cease displaying them. The Toggle Display of Equation References button or the Display References item in the Reference menu of the Curve-Fit graph turns the display of references on and off without altering them.

Multiple Reference Options

Check the Import Reference Library option to import an equation reference set. These files, which are also saved in a binary format, contain anywhere from one to four references and have an EQR default extension. The import will first remove existing references, if present. Note that you can also initiate this import by using the Import Reference Library item in the Reference menu of the Curve-Fit graph.

Check the Save Current Set of References as Library option to export the current set of references to disk. Note that once these equation references are saved to disk and then imported, all links to the current data set are lost. This means that the titles will no longer contain goodness-of-fit statistics. Note that you can also initiate this save by using the Save Current Set of References as Library item in the Reference menu of the Curve-Fit graph.

Check the Remove All References option to permanently delete all installed references.

Creating Standards

To make a standard, you may want to combine multiple data sets, fit them simultaneously to the target model, and then save the selected fit to disk as an equation reference. When fitting future sets, the standard can readily be imported for comparison.
