Toolbar
The Tool Bar item in the View menu toggles the TableCurve Studio toolbars on and off. The main and process toolbars can be positioned by using the docking bar at the left or upper edge of a docked toolbar, or by moving the caption area of a free floating tool window. The toolbars can be positioned on a single line, docked to the sides or bottom of the window, or positioned independently as a free floating toolbar anywhere within the main window.
The main window toolbars provide quick access to notebook, data, graphing, and fitting commands. Buttons are arranged in named groups so you can locate related operations easily. TableCurve Studio provides three main window toolbars:
Main Toolbar — Notebook, Data, Tree, View & Transform, Fit Setup, Review.
2D Process Toolbar — Operations, Smoothing, Filtering, Estimation, Prediction, Curve Fit, Special Fits.
3D Process Toolbar — Smoothing, Estimation, Surface Fit, Animation.
TableCurve Studio supports both process toolbars. The 2D and 3D editions provide the process toolbar appropriate to their edition. The detailed button reference below covers the Main Toolbar and the 3D Process Toolbar.
Showing or Hiding Toolbars
Open View > Toolbar. Select Main Toolbar, 2D Process Toolbar, or 3D Process Toolbar. A check mark indicates that the toolbar is visible. Select the command again to hide it.
Showing or Hiding Group Labels
Group labels appear beneath related toolbar buttons. To show or hide these labels, choose View > Toolbar > Toolbar Labels. This setting applies to all three main window toolbars. Labels are shown by default, and your preference is retained between sessions. A group label appears gray when none of its buttons is available.
Understanding Unavailable Buttons
Toolbar commands become available according to the selected notebook item, the data dimension, the product edition, and the operation currently in progress. For example, selecting a 3D data node disables the XY data editor button, while selecting a 2D data node disables the XYZ data editor button.
Choosing an All-Equation Search
The Curve Fit group on the 2D Process toolbar provides two all-equation searches:
Curve-Fit All Equations — searches the single-component models.
Curve-Fit All Equations plus Multiple Components — expands the search to include two- and three-component peak and transition models. This search can take substantially longer.
The multiple-component button appears immediately after the standard All Equations button. Both commands are also available on the Process menu. Use the standard search for an initial assessment. Use the expanded search when multiple peaks or transitions may be present.
Specifying Imported Data
After importing a data source, use Specify Data Item on the Main Toolbar to define a data item, or Autospecify All Data Items to identify items automatically. If the source has not yet been assigned a dimension, TableCurve Studio offers a choice of XY or XYZ data. A single-dimension edition uses its supported dimension automatically. When the source already has a dimension, these commands use its existing interpretation.
Restoring the Default Toolbar Layout
Choose File > Reset Defaults > Clear Window Sizes and Positions to restore the default window and toolbar arrangement. The default order is Main Toolbar, 2D Process Toolbar, 3D Process Toolbar — each toolbar occupies a separate row, subject to edition availability. This command also restores window sizes and positions, the main window pane arrangement, and visible toolbar labels.
Note: This command applies immediately and resets more than toolbar placement. Use View > Toolbar if you only want to show or hide a toolbar.
Button Reference
The toolbars consist of the following options:
Main Toolbar

New
- closes the existing notebook and creates a new (empty) notebook file
Open
- closes the existing notebook and opens an SNB notebook file from disk
Save
- saves the current notebook to disk (functions as Save As if no save as yet occurred)
Import
Data Source - adds a disk-based file containing one or more XYZ data sets to the current notebook
Specify
XYZ Data Item - creates an XYZ native data object by selecting the X, Y, Z columns.
Autospecify
all XYZ Data Items - automatically creates all XYZ data sets within a data source or a worksheet within
a data source
Copy
- copies the currently selected XYZ data operation (a child of an XYZ data item that itself contains XYZ
data)
Paste
- pastes the previously copied XYZ data operation to the current XYZ data item (creates a new XYZ child
item)
Import
Clipboard - imports numeric data in clipboard columns, saves to disk, and adds file to notebook
Export
XYZ - exports the current XYZ data to an ASCII, Excel, Lotus, SPSS, or Systat file.
TableCurve
Studio Editor - enter or edit XYZ data via TableCurve Studio Editor
New
Titles - enter or edit basic data table titles
Enter
Calculation - enter a calculation to modify XYZ data table
Data
Graph - view scatterplot or interpolated surface of data
Section
Data - range sectioning or graphical toggling of state of data points
Smooth
Loess - smooth data using bivariate Loess algorithm
Gridded
Smoothing - smooth data on grid or sparse grid using the Whittaker or P-Spline smoother
Fill
Sparse Grid - non-parametric scattered data interpolation to complete XY grid
Interpolate
Uniform Grid - non-parametric scattered data interpolation to generate XYZ data on an arbitrary XY
grid
Estimate
Gridded Data - non-parametric estimation for data on an XY grid
